As a tool for worldwide communication, the latest version of Skype can send messages and start voice or video calls with both individuals and groups. You only need a couple things before you can start; an account, and to add new contacts.
Send more than messages
Once you’ve installed Skype and connected with a contact, you’re able to send files along with your messages.
Create an account
Before you start using your fresh Skype download you’ll need an account. To create one is simple and will require either your cell phone number or email address. Once you’ve entered that detail, you need to decide on a password, preferably a strong one to prevent information theft.
You can set your Skype profile picture once you’ve opened the desktop application. This picture is the main visual displayed during a voice call and can help you identify who’s talking in a group call.
You can now import all of your contacts from Facebook and Microsoft, so you can keep them all collected in one place. And because so many people use Skype, it’s likely you can message or call just about anyone you know right from the app.
It’s now possible to share your screen with other users during a Skype call. This is a great feature, whether you’re making calls for business or personal purposes, and it worked well during testing.
Long loading times
The loading screen that appears when you launch Skype for the first time is often an irritating experience. You’ll see this screen again every time the application launches and occasionally while you switch between tabs or contacts in the menu.
Direct to phone
There are various ways to use Skype in place of your normal phone. Whether it’s pay-as-you-go or a subscription, you’ll be able to use the credits to call any cell phone or telephone as long as you have an internet connection.
Easily share presentations, holiday photos or anything on your screen during a call with integrated screen sharing.
Call recording and Live subtitles
Record the calls to capture special moments, note key decisions and use live subtitles to read the words that are spoken.
Pressed ‘send’ too fast? Edit sent messages or delete them all-together with a few clicks.Connect from anywhere

Skype has been around for a while, and although its call quality can be up and down at times depending on the quality of your connection, its ubiquity makes it the best option for free calls and chat. Rates for calls to regular phone numbers remain very reasonable as well, and the interface on this version is streamlined and intuitive.
Skype lets you make free voice and video calls to other Skype users, and to call any regular phone line for reasonable rates. You can also chat online for free, and because it’s so widely used, there are few people you can’t communicate with for free using this service.
